C3.ai DTI Campus Lead and Executive Committee Member Michael Franklin, Liew Family Chairman of Computer Science at the University of Chicago, was named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). At UChicago, Franklin also serves as a Faculty Co-Director of the Data Science Institute and Senior Advisor to the Provost for Computing and Data Science.
Previously, Franklin was Thomas M. Siebel Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, where he directed the Algorithms, Machines, and People Laboratory – the “AMPLab” – and was one of the original creators of Apache Spark, a leading open-source platform for data analytics and machine learning developed at the lab.
AAAS cited Franklin’s “outstanding research contributions, with a focus on the creation and direction of AMPLab.”
