C3 Energy’s Ed Abbo Delivers Keynote Address with Endesa at IOTS World Congress in Barcelona

Companies Showcase How C3 Energy’s IoT Platform and Smart Grid Applications Serve as Foundation for Global Utility’s Grid Digitization Strategy

C3 Energy President and CTO Ed Abbo and Marco Cotti, Network Commercial Operations Director at Endesa Distribucion, the largest electric utility company in Spain and a subsidiary of multinational utility company Enel, today delivered the opening energy industry keynote at the Internet of Things (IOT) Solutions World Congress. Together they discussed the significant positive impact of IoT in energy, with a real-world examination of Enel’s digital transformation.

One of the most technologically advanced power companies, Enel operates the world’s largest smart grid, and was the first utility in the world to have commercial-scale use of smart grid technology to the home.  Overseeing power generation from more than 94 GW of net installed capacity, Enel distributes electricity and gas through a network spanning 1.9 million km to serve approximately 61 million customers.

To support its continued grid modernization strategy, Enel is working with C3 Energy as its enterprise smart grid applications technology partner.

During the keynote address, Cotti shared Enel’s vision for the modernization of its global distribution network. Enel and its subsidiaries are leveraging C3 Energy’s platform and software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications to improve operational efficiency, address energy loss, and proactively identify and rectify network malfunctions and unsafe conditions. Abbo detailed C3 CyberPhysix, C3 Energy’s platform for developing industrial scale IoT applications, and the smart grid applications enabling Enel’s digital transformation and outlined the business value.

“The energy track is very strong, with presenters from some of the world’s leading energy producers in wind, oil and gas, and utilities,” said Lynne Canavan, vice president of the Industrial Internet Consortium and program chair of IOT Solutions World Congress.  “Presenting a large scale IoT deployment with Endesa, Ed Abbo’s ‘Internet of Energy’ session set the tone and provided attendees with the context for the entire three days of discussion. As the industry leader, C3 Energy was the clear choice for the opening keynote.”

The IOT Solutions World Congress is the first global event dedicated exclusively to the deployment of Internet of Things systems in industry. The event brought together more than 4,000 attendees for exhibits and six major focus areas: energy, transportation, healthcare, manufacturing, innovation, and technology.
